Erectile Dysfunction

More than 30 million American men suffer with some form of erectile dysfunction. The most common type of erectile dysfunction is the inability to obtain or sustain an erection firm enough to engage in sexual intercourse.

The fundamental cause of erectile dysfunction is lack of blood flow to the penis, but nerve damage, and medications may also be causes of erectile dysfunction.

While medications can cause erectile dysfunction it is important to remember that medical conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol are also MAJOR causes of erectile dysfunction and improving these conditions does help improve erectile dysfunction.

There are medications on the market that are designed to improve erectile dysfunction. Medications such as Viagra®, Levitra®, and Cialis®, are known as 5 - phosphodiestrase inhibitors and are designed to improve blood flow to the penis.

While these medications are effective they are not effective for everyone. Men who have extreme nerve damage, severe high blood pressure, some forms of paralysis, and other conditions may not get as much benefit.
